The best way to sum up Central America in a nutshell is with the words: culture, colour and cuisine. It is defined firstly by its indigenous roots and secondly by the strong Spanish colonial influence. Before the Spanish there were 67 indigenous groups dominated by the Mayan and by the time the Spanish had left, a mix of indigenous and Spanish called Mestizo dominated and drew up the present day borders driven by the products they produced influenced by geography and politics. They then developed their own national identities within these borders. Central America has the look and feel of Latin South America but set in a hot, humid, jungle geography similar to equatorial Asia, dominated by volcanoes many of them active. It is essentially South America meets Equatorial Asia.
Our journey home from Bogota COLOMBIA to Sydney AUSTRALIA began at 4am on Wednesday 20 March 2024 and by take-off at 8am, took a total of 33 hours, 25 of them in the air with 3 hours on the ground in Houston and 5 hours in San Francisco. An epic return in its own right.
Speaking of epic, it is a tradition of Golfco Pictures epic adventures to give you the BEST and WORST highlights of our trip and to summarise the key differences between the countries that we visited.
